Living Above Your Past Experiences

As I was outdoors today, I noticed that my front lawn had some brown spots on it. As I examined it more closely, I could tell that the grass was brown from my last cut. When the grass was cut the last time it was higher than normal. This caused the grass that was cut to lie on top of the new grass that was growing underneath. To sum it up, the old grass was suffocating the new grass. This stopped the new grass from growing and expressing itself. To remedy the problem, I had to use a rake to pull the old grass off so the new grass could breathe.

Many times in our lives we allow our old experiences to lie upon us and too often we don’t realize it. Like the new grass wanted to express itself—it could not due to its current condition. We will not be able to express ourselves in a new way as long as we succumb to the weight of an old experience. We will need to utilize the tools necessary to put our past in its proper place. Then we can live and be our most true and authentic selves. When this is done, we will be able to breathe easily without the anxiety of our past.

See yourself. Agree with yourself. Be yourself!
