My purpose in writing this book is threefold: First, I want my daughter to have a life that is fulfilling, enjoyable, and healthy. She deserves the best life possible. Second, I thought of the many women – old and young – who did not know, understand, or who never met their fathers. I thought of how to remove the void that could exist from not having a dad in their lives, and/or not hearing that they are lovely or loved. If allowed, I would like to stand in the gap as that ‘father figure’. By sharing letters of love, honor, respect, and advice, I hope to bring healing to the hurt that was caused through absence, neglect, misinformation, or abuse.

Third, I wanted to provide a conversation starter to the fathers who are present in their daughters’ lives. I hope this will serve as a way for a father to have a dialogue with his daughter. As men, we oftentimes don’t always know what to say or how to express our feelings. This can cause us to look as if we are uninterested, unaffectionate, or distant. I hope that this devotional helps fathers and daughters to become closer. Together, they can discuss the things that she is interested in, find common ground, and help the daughter discover some things about herself that she may not know.
